We've wrapped up our first full calendar year of operations here at GPC! 2018 brought some incredible growth for the business, executive directors and youth employees. Check out our highlights below, and stay tuned because 2019 is going to be a pretty exciting year!
This year, we expanded to four farmers markets. We returned to Whittier and added Finnegans, Linden Hills and the Northeast Winter Market to our schedule. This growth allowed us to employ three new youth: Anthony, David and Aza.
In February we became fiscally sponsored by Propel Nonprofits, which allowed us to incorporate as a nonprofit and form a Board of Directors. We currently have eight board members who provide us with incredible support and guidance, we are so thankful for them. Signing in our board was a monumental step forward for the agency!
We began renting roasting space so we could sell coffee both at the market and via our online store. We also built wholesale accounts with local churches and collaborated with Finnegans Brewery to create a coffee beer named Punk Arse Porter. Roasting increases both our community presence and agency income, which means we can serve more youth!
We increased bookings for private events, which allowed us to extend Akiyah’s time in the program as our Special Events Employee. Akiyah worked up until a few days before giving birth to a healthy and adorable baby boy. Her work ethic continues to astound us, and getting to know her on a deeper level has been a highlight of this year.
Two of Ben’s close friends got married in September and decided that instead of registering for items, they would ask attendees to donate to a GPC fund setup for their wedding. Through their act of generosity, friends at the wedding gave over $5,000 towards youth employment, equipment purchases and our capital campaign. What an incredibly beautiful gift they gave us.
For us, 2018 was a year of hard work to build a framework for GPC. We are excited to start reaping the results of this in 2019 as we begin searching for a permanent location and growing our youth programs. As always, thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Happy New Year friends!
